In Episode 10, Juliet and Sammy build on their previous conversation about Above and Below the Line, turning their attention to a question many leaders face: how do we get ourselves back to our best when we notice we’ve slipped below the line? And of course the first part is noticing it and accepting it.
Initially their conversation focuses on practical and accessible ways to shift back into a more collaborative, resourceful, and open state.
Juliet and Sammy explore both cognitive and somatic approaches to resetting ourselves. On the cognitive side, they discuss how our thoughts and perspectives shape our state. By gently challenging our assumptions and looking for evidence, we can begin to shift unhelpful thinking patterns and open up new ways of seeing a situation.
Alongside this, they highlight the importance of the body. Simple somatic practices - such as taking a breath, pausing, box breathing or even physically shaking out tension - can quickly help reset the nervous system. These small actions can create just enough space to move from reaction to intention.
Both Juliet and Sammy share their own personal strategies for when they find themselves below the line.
A key theme in this episode is that this is an ongoing practice. They even reflect on stretching beyond their usual seven-and-a-half-minute format - acknowledging with humour that the conversation continues to evolve, with a commitment to bringing the next episode back within time.
This episode is a reminder that slipping below the line is part of being human. What matters most is developing the awareness and tools to bring ourselves back - again and again - to a more intentional, grounded, and resourceful way of leading.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where they will continue exploring practical ways to support this shift.
